What Double Play Is About
Ostrik is an older man who returns to Curaçao after years abroad. His childhood comes back with the return. What is on his mind is the year 1973 and a game his father played then. The consequences of that game shaped Ostrik’s youth. The film keeps the island’s poverty and its colourful landscape inside the same frame. Its people stand for the mixed population of the island. Pride and humiliation, money and love, ambition and hope sit next to one another. The hundred and thirty minutes are divided between two times. Lennie James, Melanie Liburd and Louis Gossett Jr. appear in Ernest R. Dickerson’s Antillean film, completed in 2017.
