Dry Season

Chad, 2006. After forty years of civil war the radio announces that the government has amnestied the war criminals. Unable to accept it, Gumar Abatcha sends his sixteen-year-old grandson Atim out with his father’s own gun to find the man who killed him. Atim finds him quickly: Nassara is married now, goes to the mosque and runs a small bakery. The boy takes a job as his apprentice and waits for the right moment. Mahamat-Saleh Haroun is really writing about the distance between an amnesty a state declares and a forgiveness a person has to reach alone. The film took the Special Jury Prize at Venice in 2006.
