Hissein Habré, A Chadian Tragedy

Hissène Habré was the former dictator of Chad. His regime left a great many victims behind. Years later a process of accountability began. Habré was arrested in Senegal in 2013. That arrest came at the end of a long fight. The fight was carried by the survivors. There was an association of victims as well. The director sets out with the chairman of that association. Together they go to see people who survived. Those people tell what they lived through. What they describe left marks on the body and on the mind. The testimony is at the centre of the film. In the end a head of state was brought to trial. That had not happened before in Africa. The documentary shows the road to that outcome. Clement Abaifouta speaks in the eighty two minute film, a French and Chadian production Mahamat-Saleh Haroun finished in 2016.
