What Dummy Is About
Dummy is written and directed by Greg Pritikin, a romantic comedy drama starring Adrien Brody, Milla Jovovich, Illeana Douglas, Vera Farmiga, Jessica Walter, and Ron Leibman. Brody actually learned ventriloquism and puppetry himself to perform all of the film's routines. It premiered at the American Film Market on February 21, 2002, before a limited US release that didn't arrive until September 12, 2003. Who it's for: anyone curious about an early, unusual Adrien Brody comedy role, made before The Pianist, built around the rarely explored subject of ventriloquism. Who it's not for: viewers wanting a conventional, predictable romantic comedy, since the film carries an odd, introverted sense of humor.
