What Dust on the Brain Is About
The film is about the housewives of a newly built working class neighbourhood in Denmark in the 1960s: whose home is cleaner, whose curtains are newer, who knocked on whose door and when. The competition over cleanliness turns being neighbours into a kind of contest, and the women’s relations with their husbands, with each other and with their own time all turn around it. Poul Bang’s hundred and four minute Danish comedy is a remake of a Norwegian film from 1959. Dirch Passer, Ove Sprogøe, Helle Virkner and Bodil Udsen appear. It was completed in 1961 and treats the daily life of the new estates with a light but sharp humour.
