What Charley's Aunt Is About
Having finished their law studies, Charles and Peter want to court two young women in the country, and for that they need a chaperone. When Charles’s aunt, who lives in Brazil, fails to arrive on the expected day, they talk their friend Ditlev into standing in for her. Ditlev takes the part far too seriously, and matters become thoroughly tangled once the real aunt turns up. Directed by Poul Bang, the hundred and one minute Danish comedy was adapted from Brandon Thomas’s famous play of 1892 and opened on 12 October 1959. Dirch Passer plays Ditlev, Ove Sprogøe plays Charles and Ebbe Langberg plays Peter, with Birgitte Federspiel as the real aunt and Ghita Nørby also in the cast.
