Either Way

Two men who work for the Icelandic road administration spend a summer painting lines on the roads. On those winding mountain roads there is nobody but the two of them. Each is standing at a turning point in his own life. Across the days they talk, they stay silent, and they irritate each other. Instead of events the film tells the distance between two people. The proportion between the size of the landscape and the smallness of their concerns is the real joke. The account holds comedy and silence in the same place. The eighty four minutes are used for a single summer. Sveinn Ólafur Gunnarsson and Hilmar Guðjónsson appear in Hafsteinn Gunnar Sigurðsson’s film, a joint Icelandic and British production, completed in 2011.
