El gerente

Álvaro is a marketing manager at an electronics company. His marriage is over, he can barely talk to his son, and he is mediocre at work. When his bosses demand a better campaign for the 2018 World Cup, he lands on this: if Argentina fails to qualify, refund the customer and let them keep the television. Ariel Winograd did not invent the idea. The campaign really ran; the move by the marketing manager at Noblex ahead of 2018 is still remembered in Argentina. The film folds the real case into a midlife story, where what matters is not whether the promotion works but whether the man gets a chance to look at himself again. Leonardo Sbaraglia leads, with Carla Peterson, Luis Luque and Cecilia Dopazo. It went up on Paramount+ on 20 October 2022. Who it's for: Viewers who enjoy Argentine comedies that use football culture as backdrop, and second-chance stories. Who it's not for: The emotional resolution takes the easy road and the character's turnaround runs too smoothly. Anyone wanting satire with teeth will not find it.
