Emilia

The account is set in Soviet Lithuania in 1972. Emilija is a young woman. She grew up without parents. She comes to Kaunas and joins the theatre as an actress. She hopes to build a new life. What she finds backstage is not what she expected. Pressure and control run through the company. In those years even the word freedom was forbidden. She wants to put a banned play on the stage. What the play describes is the repression itself. That same spring young people fill the streets of Kaunas asking for freedom. Emilija goes in among them, and the film ties the stage to the street. Ieva Andrejevaitė and Darius Gumauskas appear in the hundred and twenty minute film, a Lithuanian production Donatas Ulvydas finished in 2017.
