Explorer

The documentary tells the life of Ranulph Fiennes. He was the first to travel around the world from pole to pole, crossed the Antarctic on foot and found a lost city in Arabia. He lost half his fingers to frostbite. He raised millions of pounds for charity and was at one point considered for the part of James Bond. The description of him as the greatest living explorer was given to him by others. The film looks for the man behind all those headings; he himself prefers to be known simply as Ran. The account uses archive footage and interviews together. Why a person keeps trying the harder thing is the real question of the film. Anton Bowring speaks alongside Fiennes in Matthew Dyas’s hundred and thirteen minute film, a joint British and American production, completed in 2022.
