Eyyvah Eyvah

Huseyin, a clarinet player living with his grandparents in a small town in Thrace, travels to Istanbul to look for the father he has never met. In the city his path crosses that of Firuzan, a nightclub singer, and together they search for the father while entering each other's worlds. Ata Demirer wrote the script and plays Huseyin, with Demet Akbag as Firuzan. Its strength lies in the rhythm between the two and in Demirer's refusal to exaggerate the provincial innocence. Hakan Algul directed. It opened in February 2010, became one of the most watched Turkish films of the year, and produced two sequels. The clarinet and arabesque music are built into the storytelling. Who it is for: viewers who like Turkish comedy and the town versus city contrast built on character. Who it is not for: anyone wanting sharp humour, since the feeling always comes first here.
