Familia

Leo, who grows olives in Mexico, gathers the whole family after a food company makes a strong offer for the farm; the decision has to be made within days. Around the table are three daughters, sons-in-law, a pregnant sister, grandchildren, and his son Benjamín, who has Down syndrome. Rodrigo García compresses everything into that gathering and uses the sale as a pretext, because what actually gets discussed is who stayed, who left, and what nobody has said to whom. His familiar method holds here: little incident, a great deal of talk, a large cast. Daniel Giménez Cacho plays the father. Netflix released it in December 2023. Who it is for: viewers who like family drama staged around a table and ensemble acting. Who it is not for: anyone wanting tension and pace, since the film moves deliberately flat.
