The Follies

A stormy day in Mexico City. Renata is under house arrest and on the edge of a manic episode, and the film moves out from her through family, lovers and friends, laying several lives cracking under pressure side by side. Rodrigo García refuses to anchor it to one protagonist, building instead an episodic structure where each section shows someone pushing against a limit imposed on them: confinement, self-censorship, family expectation. The cast is drawn from established Mexican performers, among them Adriana Barraza, Ilse Salas and Alfredo Castro. It opened in Mexico in September 2025 and went to Netflix in November, running a hundred and twenty-one minutes. Who it is for: viewers who like episodic structures and actor-driven Mexican drama. Who it is not for: anyone who wants to follow a single story through, since the film keeps changing people.
