What Familiar Grounds Is About

Benoit and Maryse are brother and sister. From the outside their lives look ordinary enough. Benoit is in his thirties and has got nowhere. He spends his time in his bedroom playing an electric guitar. He has a snowmobile that keeps breaking down. He needles the people around him and still behaves like an adolescent. He is also looking after his father, who is convalescing. His neighbour Nathalie lives alone with her son. Benoit likes her, but the boy does not like him. Then a series of coincidences gets in the way. A man turns up claiming to come from the future. The arrangement the siblings live by is shaken by that visit. Whether what he says is true is never settled. The film places the strange inside the ordinary. The quiet of winter sets the ground of the story. Francis La Haye and Fanny Mallette appear in the ninety minute film, a Canadian production Stéphane Lafleur finished in 2011.
