Far from the Tree

The documentary looks at families. In each family the child is different from the parents. The parents describe how they live with that difference. The film was adapted from Andrew Solomon’s book. The book is called Far From the Tree. Solomon is among the film’s producers. The account follows several families. Jason is a man with Down syndrome. Jack is a teenager with autism. Leah and Joe are a married couple of short stature. The two of them hope to become parents. Trevor committed a murder at sixteen. His family is learning to live with that fact. Solomon tells his own story as well. The days when he came out to his family are inside the film. Rachel Dretzin directed the ninety three minute American documentary of 2019.
