Fear of Falling

Tomek reads the news on television and has a settled family life. A message from the psychiatric hospital in his hometown breaks that order: his father, whom he has not seen for years, has just been admitted. Everyone tells him not to go, his own judgement tells him not to go, and he goes. An attempt to sell his father’s flat is left half done, and guilt is what remains of it. Then he decides to make up for the lost time. He takes his father out of the hospital without permission and drives him to the mountains, the two of them off on a holiday together. The film takes illness not as a strangeness but as the distance between two people. Marcin Dorociński and Krzysztof Stroiński appear in Bartosz Konopka’s eighty seven minute Polish film, completed in 2011.
