Rabbit à la Berlin

For twenty-eight years the death strip between the two walls in Berlin was the safest place in the world if you were a wild rabbit: plenty of grass, no predators, guards keeping people out. They were shut in, and they were content. When the population reached the thousands the guards began clearing them out, and the rabbits stayed anyway. Then one day the wall came down and they had to give up the comfortable arrangement, crossing into West Berlin, where they have been living in a few colonies ever since and learning how the free world works. Bartek Konopka made the thirty-nine minute Polish and German production with Piotr Rosolowski, and it was nominated for the Academy Award for best documentary short in 2010, having already won prizes in Krakow, Toronto and Warsaw.
