Rokudenashiko L Leyla Hussein D Doris Wagner V Vithika Yadav What #Female Pleasure Is About
Five women, five countries and five different communities. Deborah Feldman, who left the Hasidic community in Brooklyn; Leyla Hussein, from a Somali family, who campaigns against female genital cutting; Doris Wagner, who describes the abuse she suffered in a Catholic convent; Rokudenashiko, the Japanese artist prosecuted for obscenity; and Vithika Yadav, who works on sex education in India. Barbara Miller's documentary records the response each of them met from her own community: exclusion, prosecution, threats. The film does not condemn religions wholesale; what it describes is the control placed on women's bodies everywhere. All five speak in their own words, and none of them is held up as an example to the others. It screened at Locarno in 2018.
