FernGully: The Last Rainforest

An animated film set in a rainforest. Crysta is a young fairy living in the forest. The elders told her humans had died out long ago, but one day machines come into the forest and the trees start coming down. Crysta sees Zak, who works on the logging crew, and accidentally shrinks him to her own size. Zak suddenly finds himself inside the forest he was cutting, the size of a leaf. The film's second line is a being called Hexxus. This force feeds on pollution and was sealed inside a tree years ago; the logging sets it free. In the animation the character is drawn as smoke and oil, and its voicing is what the film is most discussed for. The production has a stated aim: to explain deforestation to children. So the message is delivered directly and not hidden. Samantha Mathis, Christian Slater, Tim Curry and Robin Williams, voicing the bat, are in the cast. Bill Kroyer directed.
