Secret of the Wings

Tinker Bell crosses into the Winter Woods, which fairies are forbidden to enter, and finds her twin sister Periwinkle there. The two were born from the same laugh, and the ban exists because crossing between the warm seasons and winter damages their wings. It is the fourth film in the Disney Fairies series, produced by Disneytoon Studios and directed by Peggy Holmes. Mae Whitman returns as Tinker Bell with Lucy Hale voicing the new character Periwinkle. Timothy Dalton plays Lord Milori, who leads the winter fairies, and Lucy Liu, Raven-Symoné and Megan Hilty return. It had a limited US theatrical run from 31 August to 13 September 2012 before arriving on DVD and Blu-ray on 23 October 2012, and was the first film in the franchise released in 3D. On a budget between 30 and 35 million dollars it grossed 67.5 million worldwide. Rotten Tomatoes sits at 62 percent, with The Guardian's critic calling it machine-tooled for the tweenie sleepover market. Who it is for: children following the series and families wanting winter-themed animation. Who it is not for: adults wanting depth. The reunion works emotionally and the rest is formula.
