What Fetching Cody Is About
Art deals and hustles his way through Vancouver's Downtown Eastside. When his girlfriend Cody overdoses, a battered recliner that a homeless friend dragged out of a dumpster and strung with Christmas lights turns out to be a working time machine. Art starts going back to fix her past, reaching further and further into her childhood with every attempt. David Ray keeps the science fiction cheap and unglamorous on purpose, so the weight falls on addiction, poverty and the people the city has already written off. Jay Baruchel and Sarah Lind carry it, and the film keeps asking whether rescuing someone is a thing one person can actually do to another.
