What Firecreek Is About

Firecreek is a small town where Johnny, a farmer, serves as part time sheriff; he dislikes fighting and wants trouble with nobody. When an armed group rides in, settles and takes the place over, he has to stand alone where nobody else will. The most striking thing is the casting: James Stewart plays the sheriff and Henry Fonda the leader of the gang. The two were lifelong friends off screen but made only two films together. Seeing Fonda as the villain was unusual for that year as well.
