They Call Me Trinity

Enzo Barboni wrote and directed it under the pseudonym E.B. Clucher. By his own account the name Trinity came by chance while he was searching the Bible for a prayer for the film’s Mormons. His first draft had only Trinity; the producer Italo Zingarelli suggested giving him a brother. The casting turned over late. The announced pairing was Peter Martell as Trinity and George Eastman as Bambino. Hearing Barboni was carrying the script from producer to producer, Terence Hill and Bud Spencer offered themselves as a package and took both roles. They did their own stunts, the supporting cast largely stuntmen. Hill says the famous pan of beans was shot in one take on an empty stomach. Exteriors went to the Camposecco plateau in the Monti Simbruini park and to Campo Imperatore, and in thanks Camerata Nuova made Hill and Spencer honorary citizens. The Franco Micalizzi and Lally Stott title theme resurfaced in 2012 on the Django Unchained soundtrack as Titoli (Trinity). A good fit if you want long brawl choreography instead of quick draw tension, a pan of beans staged as a set piece, and pacifist Mormon farmers taught to fight. Not for anyone arriving on the assumption that nobody dies in it. Soon after the opening, the fake sheriff guns down three of Major Harriman’s men.
