Crime Busters

Bud Spencer and Terence Hill's film, set in Miami. Two men are looking for work. One is a sailor, the other lives off small swindles. Through a misunderstanding they are taken on as policemen. Neither wants it, but a job is a job. The comedy comes from the pair's known formula: one talks constantly and moves fast, the other never speaks and finishes things with a single punch. The fights are not bloody but deliberately cartoonish, and so are the sound effects. There is a drug ring in the main plot, but the film really proceeds episode by episode: each scene builds its own joke and the story ties them together. Enzo Barboni directs, the man behind most of the pair's known films. The music is by Guido and Maurizio De Angelis, the source of the familiar sound in these films. Exactly right for anyone who likes 1970s Italian comedy or grew up with these two. For a new viewer the film rests entirely on the formula and the plot itself is almost beside the point.
