What Midnight Runners Is About
Two police academy students witness an abduction on the street during a night off, and when official channels fail they start investigating themselves. The balance is unusual: their incompetence generates the comedy while the subject itself is not light at all. It comes from the period when Korean cinema mastered exactly this mixture. The pairing carries it, one of them by the book and the other impulsive. Towards the end the tone hardens noticeably and the laughing stops. The action is amateurish on purpose.
