What Veteran Is About
A detective who will not compromise goes after a crime committed by the heir of a corporation everyone treats as untouchable, and the system keeps blocking him. Ryoo Seung-wan makes it fast, loud and openly populist, handling the impunity of the rich without any circumlocution. The fights are shot as brute force rather than choreography and the choice works. The villain sits on the edge of caricature, though set against real Korean cases it hardly counts as exaggeration. The humour appears in unexpected places without draining the tension.
