Vittorio is a goldsmith, a man used to shaping metal with fire. He answers a personal ad and finds Sonia sweet, intelligent and good company, with one flaw in his eyes: she weighs too much. As the relationship goes on he starts deciding what she eats, and Sonia agrees to it almost without noticing. Once they withdraw to a house in the country they lose contact with everyone else.
