Footprints on the Moon

Footprints on the Moon (original title Le Orme), the final feature of director Luigi Bazzoni, is an unusual entry in the Italian giallo genre, moving away from the black gloved killer clichés to incorporate science fiction elements instead; it stars Florinda Bolkan, with Klaus Kinski in the cast. Bolkan lost 11 pounds during filming, immersing herself so deeply in the role. The film's cinematographer, three time Oscar winner Vittorio Storaro, is director Bazzoni's own cousin. The film was shot over nine weeks in Rome and at the ancient city of Phaselis in Turkey's Kemer region. It was restored in 4K from the original camera negatives by Severin Films. Who it's for: anyone curious about an unusual entry in the giallo genre, partly filmed in Turkey, whose Oscar winning cinematographer was the director's own cousin. Who it's not for: viewers expecting a classic black gloved killer giallo, since the film leans into science fiction and dream sequences instead.
