For One More Hour with You

Alina Marazzi lost her mother when she was seven. Years later she goes into the family archive: home movies her grandfather shot, photographs, her mother's notebooks and letters. Out of this material she tries to rebuild her mother's life. In the footage there is a young woman laughing; in the writing there is somebody else entirely. Marazzi's Italian documentary runs fifty-five minutes and is built entirely from found footage. The telling does not try to explain her mother's death and looks for no cause; the subject is a child's effort to know a mother she never knew. The film also touches on mental health and the treatments given to women in that period. The tone is calm and never exposes anyone.
