Forbidden Lies

The documentary takes up Norma Khouri. Khouri wrote a book. It told of an honour killing. The events it described were set in Jordan. The book became a bestseller. It was published in many countries. Then journalists began to ask questions. No trace of the events could be found. The details did not hold together. It came out that the book was invented. The director sets out on the road with Khouri. In front of the camera she defends her story. The film also looks at the part the media played in it. The account moves through what the writer herself says. The journalist Malcolm Knox is among those speaking. Norma Khouri and Rana Husseini appear in the hundred and four minute documentary, an Australian production Anna Broinowski finished in 2007.
