Forever Young

The film ties together four stories set in four different times, and what they share is one university: Tsinghua in Beijing. In the twenties a student cannot decide what to study. In the forties, during the war, a young man signs up as a pilot. In the sixties, during the Cultural Revolution, a woman becomes the target of a crowd. In the present, someone working in a company faces a moral choice. The film's own origin is that university: it was commissioned in 2011 for Tsinghua's centenary and shooting finished in 2012. Then it did not open for years and only came out at the start of 2018. Li Fangfang directed. The cast is very large: Zhang Ziyi, Huang Xiaoming, Chang Chen and Wang Leehom. A hundred and thirty-eight minutes. The story is openly an ode to an institution and does not hide it; the emphasis on personal honesty is repeated in all four sections.
