Winfried Glatzeder What Fritzi: A Revolutionary Tale Is About
September 1989 in East Germany. Fritzi is twelve, and her closest friend Sophie went on holiday with her mother, crossed to the West through Hungary, and did not come back. What is left behind is Sophie's small dog Sputnik. Fritzi decides to get the dog to its owner, and the only route runs across a very heavily guarded border. Adapted from a children's book, the animation tells that autumn at a child's height: the demonstrations growing in the streets, the language changing at school, the things nobody says at home. The fall of the Wall arrives not as a history lesson but through ordinary daily life. And in telling it to children, it does not erase the fear or the uncertainty.
