The documentary goes to the twin towns on the border between the United States and Mexico, Agua Prieta in Sonora and Douglas in Arizona. Chantal Akerman uses the method she is known for: long, static, observational shots, and inside them sit the hard landscape of the desert and the bare architecture of the border wall. Conversations with Mexicans trying to cross and with families who have lost someone are set beside the high technology tracking systems on the line and the words of American ranchers, and it is out of that juxtaposition that the fact emerges: tightened border enforcement has pushed people onto more dangerous routes. The hundred minute Belgian French co-production was completed in 2003.
