Funny Valentines

Joyce is a woman living in New York. She learns that her husband has been unfaithful. She makes her decision at once. She takes her daughters back to her home town in the South. There she meets her cousin Dearie again. The two of them fell out years earlier. Her ailing aunt Ethel is in the same house. Old matters are opened up again. The year Joyce left for the city is discussed. Nobody in the family has forgotten that break. The women say what they could not say to each other. The hurt begins to loosen. Joyce reaches her decision about the marriage here. The film takes its story from a J. California Cooper story. The telling is built through the relations between the women. Alfre Woodard and Loretta Devine appear in the one hundred eight minute film, an American production Julie Dash finished in 1999.
