Hai Phuong, once part of a criminal organisation, lives in a village collecting debts and raising her daughter. The girl is taken at the market. She goes after them to Saigon and runs into an organ trafficking ring. Le Van Kiet directed. Veronica Ngo plays Hai Phuong and is also among the producers. The fighting is built on vovinam, the Vietnamese martial art; the choreography is about speed and locks rather than display. Ngo performed most of the fights herself and was injured during production. It became the highest-grossing domestic film in Vietnam to that point and entered international circulation through Netflix. The story is simple and familiar: a taken child and a mother in pursuit. What distinguishes it is place; rivers, boats and narrow streets provide the ground for the chases. It runs a little over ninety minutes and never stops. Who it is for: viewers who like Asian action cinema and fight choreography. Who it is not for: anyone after an original story; the plot is entirely familiar.
