Gabriel's Inferno

Adapted from the novel by the Canadian author writing as Sylvain Reynard, about a Dante scholar at the University of Toronto and a graduate student whose past turns out to intersect with his. The book frames itself on Dante and Beatrice Portinari. Its origin is worth knowing: it started as Twilight fan fiction called The University of Edward Masen before being reworked for commercial publication. Reynard described it as an opportunity to try his hand at fiction writing. The series reached the New York Times best seller list, with both of the first two books charting in October 2012, and some readers organised Toronto walking tours of the novel's locations. Tosca Musk directed the adaptation for Passionflix, the streaming service she founded, with Melanie Zanetti and Giulio Berruti. Each book was released in three parts, starting in May 2020, followed by Gabriel's Rapture and Gabriel's Redemption, with the final instalment arriving in December 2023.
