Gara-Gara Warisan

Muhadkly Acho's 2022 Indonesian film follows three siblings who never get along. Their father Dahlan's guest house will pass to them as an inheritance, but to whom is unclear and each of them defends a claim. The film shows the inheritance not as a division of property but as a reckoning with the past. The eldest son blames his failures on his father's harshness, the middle daughter has stood on her own feet and the youngest was always favoured; all three remember the same events entirely differently. The tone sits between comedy and family drama. The narrative rests on conversations among the siblings and the setting is largely confined to the guest house. The final section grants reconciliation too easily. Who it's for: those who like Indonesian family comedy. Who it's not for: viewers expecting a hard ending; the film closes by softening the conflict.
