Genius Within: The Inner Life of Glenn Gould

The documentary is about the pianist Glenn Gould. He was a Canadian musician. The film goes back to his childhood and his first training. His first great record was Bach’s Goldberg Variations. That record made his name. A tour of the Soviet Union widened it further. Then he made an unexpected decision. In 1964 he stopped giving concerts. After that he worked only in the studio. The film also deals with his habits, the humming while he played among them. His worries about his health and the way he dressed are part of the account. So is his relationship with Cornelia Foss, told through archive footage and private home material. Peter Raymont and Michèle Hozer made the hundred and thirteen minute documentary, a Canadian production finished in 2009.
