Alejandra Borrero M Mónica Bustamante What Gente de bien Is About
Ten-year-old Eric finds himself, almost overnight, living with Gabriel, the father he barely knows. Maria Isabel, the upper-class woman whose house Gabriel works in as a carpenter, sees that he is struggling both to build something with his son and to stay afloat, and takes the boy under her wing. The film does not avoid asking how much of that goodwill is help and how much is possession, and it measures the distance between two classes in Bogotá through a child’s eyes. Franco Lolli wrote and directed, and Brayan Santamaría plays Eric. It screened in Critics’ Week at Cannes in 2014 and won best film at the Ghent festival the same year.
