Vladimir Durán What The Defendant Is About
Silvia is a lawyer raising a child on her own. Her name gets drawn into a corruption investigation. That trouble at work stays in second place next to a heavier one at home: her mother’s cancer has returned. Silvia has to face her mother’s approaching death at the same time. In the same stretch she feels close to someone for the first time in years. The film is about carrying those three weights at once. The account makes nobody either a hero or a victim. The ninety three minutes are compressed into a few weeks. Carolina Sanin and Leticia Gómez appear in Franco Lolli’s film, a joint Colombian and French production, completed in 2020.
