The Wall has come down and East Germany no longer exists. Lemmy Caution, the agent Godard used in Alphaville, turns up a quarter of a century later with the same face, this time as a forgotten spy. He walks west. Along the way he runs into books, pieces of music, history lessons and people he does not know. The title points back to Rossellini's Germany Year Zero. Godard does not tell a story; for sixty-three minutes quotation, text and image are laid over one another. Eddie Constantine played Lemmy Caution here for the last time. The film's question is plain: what did reunification unite, and what is left of history.
