Four short films by four directors. The title is an abbreviation of their surnames: Rossellini, Godard, Pasolini, Gregoretti. Rossellini's Illibatezza follows a stewardess coping with the unwanted attentions of a passenger, told through the 8mm films she sends to her fiancé. Godard's Il nuovo mondo is set in a Paris where a nuclear explosion has gone off 120 kilometres away. A man notices that the behaviour of the people around him has changed while the press denies it. Pasolini's La ricotta is about a film extra playing the crucified man in a picture about the crucifixion of Christ, trying all day to find something to eat. He dies during the filming. Orson Welles appears in this segment. Gregoretti's Il pollo ruspante follows an Italian family visiting a suburban housing development, with the satire carried by a marketing executive explaining mechanically how consumer behaviour is to be stimulated. It was released on 19 February 1963. Carlo Rustichelli wrote the music and it runs 122 minutes. Who it is for: viewers curious about sixties European cinema and anthology films. Who it is not for: anyone wanting coherence. The four parts differ sharply in tone and quality, and only the Pasolini segment is cited on its own.
