Get Married

Hanung Bramantyo's 2007 Indonesian film follows Mae, who agrees to marry under pressure from her parents. Her three male friends take it on themselves to find her a suitable match. Their help makes things worse. Candidates are eliminated one by one and the friends fold in interests of their own; the narrative questions marriage as an obligation and keeps Mae the one deciding. Nirina Zubir leads. The tone is fast and broad, with jokes resting on physical comedy. The film found a wide audience in Indonesia and sequels followed. Who it's for: those who like Indonesian comedy. Who it's not for: viewers expecting subtle humour; the film prefers the broad kind.
