Gettin' Square

Barry Wirth is just out of prison and this time means to live straight. He looks for work and nobody will take him; the record closes every door. His old mate Spit is permanently off his head, always onto something, and pulls Barry along. There is also Dabba: a former gangster now running a restaurant and drowning in debt. Above all of them sits someone nobody can touch, who needs the old names to close a file. Barry learns that staying clean is harder than prison was. Jonathan Teplitzky directs the Australian film; a hundred minutes, with Sam Worthington as Barry, David Wenham as Spit and Timothy Spall as Dabba. Wenham's scene giving evidence in court became famous in Australia quite apart from the film.
