What Giorgino Is About

October 1918. The young doctor Giorgino Volli comes back from the front. He goes looking for a group of orphaned children he had charge of before the war. The trail takes him to a desolate village. There are no men there, the women will not speak, the marsh swallows everything, and wolves come at night. Nobody wants to talk about the children. He meets a woman named Catherine, taken by the village to have lost her mind, and she is the only one he can reach. The further he looks, the more of what the village is hiding comes out. Laurent Boutonnat directs; two hours and fifty-seven minutes. Mylène Farmer plays Catherine. It was a commercial disaster on release and the director never made another feature; over the years it became a cult film.
