What Jacquou the Rebel Is About
The Périgord, 1815. Jacquou is a peasant's son whose life comes apart in one night after a dispute between his father and the Count de Nansac. His father is arrested, both parents die, and the boy is raised by a priest. Grown, he wants one thing: to make the count answer. Boutonnat adapted Eugène Le Roy's novel, a book read for generations in France almost as a schoolroom text. A large, crowded period picture, with Gaspard Ulliel carrying the revenge as exhaustion rather than triumph.
