What God's Gift Is About
This is a time before colonial rule. A pedlar is crossing the savannah. He finds a child in the bush. The boy is lying unconscious. When he comes round he cannot speak. He cannot say who he is. The pedlar leaves him at the nearest village, where a family takes him in. A search for his parents turns up nothing, and in the end they adopt him. They name him Wend Kuuni, which means gift of God. He grows up close to the daughter of the house. Then something happens in the village and the boy begins to speak. The film was shot in Mooré and is counted as the first feature made in Burkina Faso. It took the César for best film in the French language. Serge Yanogo, Rosine Yanogo and Joseph Nikiema appear in the seventy one minute film, directed by Gaston Kaboré.
