Gohan

Gohan is a stray dog. The film covers ten years of his life. He passes from one person to another: he stays a while with a family and they move; a woman takes him in and then falls ill; a child grows up with him and then grows up and leaves. Each section has different people and each ends with a parting. Every time, the dog starts again. Nattawut Poonpiriya directs. It appeared in 2026. The narrative is episodic and each section is about a different owner; the only connection is the animal. The idea is not ownership but impermanence. People attach themselves to him and then their lives change; the narrative blames none of them. Poonpiriya had worked before in the thriller and the road film; this is an entirely different register for him. The dog's point of view is not used; there is no narration and no human feeling is loaded onto the animal. The narrative looks from outside. Different regions of Thailand are shown section by section and the daily life of the country is the ground. Its limit is structure; the sections are not of equal strength and there is a sense of repetition. Who it is for: viewers who like narratives about animals and episodic films. Who it is not for: the emotional register is high, little happens, and every section ending the same way becomes tiring.
