The film is set in a small industrial town in Sweden. When Roland is sentenced to prison, his sixteen year old son Kimmie is expected to take over his father’s business and provide for the family. The boy is not ready for it, and nobody asks him. The men around Kimmie keep telling him that this is his duty. The account shows a child pushed roughly into adult life, and asks what it is that passes from father to son and how little choice it leaves anyone. It takes place at a time when the welfare state is pulling back and the country is changing. Peter Gronlund’s eighty eight minute Swedish film was completed in 2019.
