Drifters

Minna lives by selling drugs on the street and is an addict herself. She cannot pay her rent, cheats a group of young criminals and runs off with the money. On the way she meets Katja, whose child has been taken by social services. The two of them move to a place outside the city that nobody pays attention to. There are others there, and they live by their own rules. Peter Grönlund's first feature rests on his own background in social work, and the cast includes people who have actually lived that life. The telling rescues nobody and declares nobody guilty; it just shows what it means to stay inside that arrangement. Malin Levanon plays Minna. The film won in five categories at Sweden's Guldbagge awards and screened at San Sebastián.
